Gasworks

Toronto, ON

Setlist Included:

Battle Scar

Details:

Max Webster soon became one of the biggest bands on the Toronto bar scene.

Bassist Mike Tilka has stated that Battle Scar was the first original song the band played live. They rehearsed it one afternoon, and it was spontaneously played at the Gasworks that evening. Tilka adds that the song didn't have the bass riff yet, and was more guitar driven. The song was considered for the first couple albums, but eventually dropped from their live set. Max revived it for their 1980 tour with Rush, which led to the song being recorded with both bands in the same room.

Paul Kersey, however, states that Anna Leah and Marmalade Mama were written before Battle Scar. And Terry Watkinson has mentioned that the only original piece the band had when he first saw them was Overnight Sensation.
